Bought more MPW

As some of you know, I’ve been getting into high dividend stocks. But just because you take a road of Slow and Steady, Steady and Slow it doesn’t always workout the way you’d like.

Just so you know, when buying dividend stocks you want to know the stocks Ex-Date and the Pay-Date. The Ex-Date is the date you must have ownership of the stock by in order to be eligible for the next dividend payment. The Pay-Date is the date the dividend is paid. When a company announces the Ex-Date they also announce what the dividend will be for that quarter. The Ex-Date comes out about a month before the dividend is paid on the Pay-Date.

At the moment I own 2 high dividend stocks, VFC and MPW. VFC pays a dividend of 7.9% at the price I bought the stock at. MPW pays 10%. The reason I started this article the way I did saying things don’t always work out the way you want it to is because VFC announced their Ex-Date and their dividend for the quarter. The Ex-Date is 3/9/23. You must own the stock by 3/9/23 in order to be eligible for this quarter’s dividend. The problem is they lowered the dividend. The last dividend was 51¢ per share and they lowered it to 30¢ per share. Who knows why they lowered it but I do know that the company came out with very good earnings. When buying stock for the dividend you must understand that they can reduce the dividend at any time. When I bought the stock I was expecting a 7.9% dividend and now, if I hold the stock, I’ll receive 4.65%. It’s still a good dividend but I was expecting the higher percentage.

I also owned 800 shares of Medical Properties Trust Inc (MPW) for a 10% dividend. They should be announcing their Ex-Date and dividend early next week. Today I bought an additional 200 shares giving me 1000 shares. My 1000 shares I own at $12.65 giving me a 9.95% return if the dividend stays the same as last quarter.

Below are my dividend holdings:

200 Shares VFC @ $25.80 – Dividend 4.65%

1000 Shares MPW @ $12.57 – Dividend 9.95%
